Director Must be a GMEA Member in Good Standing

250 students total in the performance group

6 students per school/2 alternates are accepted as space is available

2 audience tickets per student (the auditorium seats 750)

$35 per student (includes practice music, shirt for the concert, and snack)

Kati Stewart

Kati Stewart has been teaching middle school chorus since 2014. In addition to teaching, Kati enjoys performing as a staff church vocalist, choral artist, wedding singer, and jazz vocalist. She regularly performs around the Metro Atlanta area. Kati holds degrees from Kennesaw State University (B.M.E) and Florida State University (M.M.E).

Most recently, Kati has served as conducting clinician for the GMEA District IX Middle School Mixed Honor Chorus. Her Eighth Grade Chorus has performed at several in-service conferences, including Georgia ACDA, Southern Division ACDA, and GMEA.

Kati lives in Marietta with her husband, Chris Otts, and their dog, Archer.

Things to remember

GMEA Membership: All teachers must be current members of NAfME for their schools to participate in GMEA events. Be sure to get your membership in on time. Forms can be found on the GMEA website.

Choosing Children: When picking kids, you want those who are your top singers but also best behaved. If you are a brand new teacher and are unsure of a child's behavior, consider consulting the teacher they had last year to see if they would recommend them.

Money: All money should be collected and sent to the bookkeeper in your school. The bookkeeper will then cut a check for the full amount to be sent to the coordinator when you register. Student fees cover the medal, performance shirt, afternoon snack, and music.

Field Trip Forms: When you register for Honor Chorus, you must create the field trip in Passport. All parents must give permission online through ParentVue.

Transportation: Students should be transported to and from the venue by their parents. The teacher should meet the students at the venue and remain responsible for them until every child from their school has been picked up.

Chaperones: County policy states that you should have 1 chaperone per 15 kids. We suggest that, if possible, you bring 2 in case of an emergency.

School Attendance: Children will not report to school the morning of the event but should go directly to the venue to meet their teacher. Teachers must fill out a field trip request form for their school and inform the attendance clerk of the students who will be absent with them for the day.

Teacher Dress Code: Teachers often wear comfortable clothing (jeans and school shirt) during the day, but MUST change into appropriate concert attire for the evening concert.

How meals work

Students: Lunch and the morning snack are not provided. Singers should bring a sack lunch and a morning snack with drinks, all in disposable containers. One "heavy" afternoon snack is provided.

Teachers: Lunch and snacks will be provided for teachers.

Chaperones: No breakfast, lunch, or snack is provided for chaperones. Chaperones should bring their own snacks and lunch.

Music: Music packs will be delivered to your school via county mail (Cobb) or postal mail (outside Cobb). Each child will receive a folder with each piece, and teachers can receive packets for an additional expense explained on the registration form.

What should students bring?

Music (make sure your name and school name is on your music and folder)
Bring or wear a pair of blue jeans for the evening concert to wear with your honor chorus t-shirt. You will receive your shirt that day. If you have students that say they do not have jeans, please advise parents to choose blue/navy pants if possible. (Last resort - black)

Students and chaperones will meet at the event site at 8:45 a.m.
If parents need to contact a child or teacher on the day of Honor Chorus, they should call your school directly. The school will then contact the teacher. Do NOT call the host site for the event.

Student Dress Code

Encourage your students to wear their chorus or school t-shirt during rehearsals with comfortable shoes and a light jacket depending on the weather

For the performance students will wear their Honor Chorus t-shirt (given out on the day of Honor Chorus) and plain blue jeans. T-shirts will be tucked in so remind your students of that leggings and jeggings are not acceptable for the performance.
